so i have huge appetite to know and understand things but there is a limit how much i can digest or how much i care on certain subjects and every article you have written has given me so much in a deep yet profoundly understandable way. you are doing good work to translate these things we should all know to live a better (baller) life. thanks man

Great read. The way you’ve locked down the extract-identity discipline alone puts this miles ahead of the usual fluff on the subject.

I’d suggest one tweak to the creatine section, mostly because it ties directly into a point you land later on. You mention the van der Merwe study regarding the DHT spike in rugby players, but leave it hanging as a standalone serum stat. Later, in Section 10, you bring up Page (2011)—the finding that even a significant jump in serum DHT didn't change intraprostatic DHT or androgen-regulated gene expression. Those two really need to be in the same paragraph.

The van der Merwe result is the go-to reason guys dodge creatine out of fear for their hairline, and the Page data is the clearest evidence that this jump in logic just doesn't hold up. Serum DHT is basically a transport compartment. What actually dictates what happens at the follicle is intracrine—local 5-AR type 2 activity and how sensitive the androgen receptors are in that specific tissue. A guy with the susceptibility genotype will see miniaturization even with perfectly normal serum DHT levels, while his brother, who lacks that predisposition, won't. Hamilton’s eunuch data established the necessary condition for hair loss, not a simple dose-response to serum levels.

One other small gap—this one on fenugreek. You cover the 2024 RCT on total testosterone, but the more important takeaway is that standardized fenugreek extracts are actually 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. For a guy trying to actually optimize his androgenic profile rather than just chase a lab number, a marginal (and shaky) boost in total T offset by a drop in DHT is, at best, a lateral move. It’s worth a quick mention, especially since it’s so often marketed as the exact opposite.
